The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences in the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences has organized a Phlebotomy training course which started from the 1st August 2017 and ended on 25th August, 2017. A total of six persons enrolled and successfully completed the 4 week programme.
At a brief ceremony to present the trainees with their certificates on completion, both trainers and trainees expressed their satisfaction with the programme. It is therefore hoped that, employers in Public and Private sectors as well as individuals will show special interest and take advantage of these short courses organized locally.
Brief background information on the programme was given by the coordinator; Dr. Michael Mark Addai who later made an introduction of all members present at the function.
The Dean of the School, Prof. Ofori-Acquah on his part, congratulated the interns on the successful completion of the Phlebotomy programme, adding that, their background clearly indicates that they are part of the Healthcare delivery chain. He gave an insight on what the job of the participants entails and said the programme pursued was very relevant to what they do at their various work places. The Dean said he was particularly glad that, participants chose University of Ghana out of the lot. He concluded by wishing them well while hoping that they will return to the School when other Programmes are rolled out in future.
According to a post training evaluation of the Phlebotomy course by the department, it showed that the participants would like to have similar short courses in other areas such as Quality Control/assurance.
On behalf of the trainees, Mr. Peter thanked the Dean for setting up the programme. He also expressed their sincere gratitude to the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences; Prof. George A. Asare, the course coordinator; Dr. Mark and Ms. Omet Perigrino Sarah for their immense support throughout the Programme.
